environment attacks transformers through a combination of factors.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"79\" data-end=\"644\">Heat is the most visible challenge. Rising ambient temperatures increase winding hot-spot temperatures and accelerate thermal aging of insulation materials. According to the <strong data-start=\"253\" data-end=\"288\">IEEE C57.91 thermal aging model<\/strong>, insulation life decreases significantly as hot-spot temperature increases. The classic rule in <strong data-start=\"385\" data-end=\"400\">IEEE C57.91<\/strong> is that when the winding hot-spot temperature is around 98\u00b0C, the relative aging rate is defined as 1. For every additional 6\u00b0C increase, the insulation aging rate approximately doubles, meaning the expected insulation life is reduced by half.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"646\" data-end=\"1016\">Sand is the hidden threat. Dust particles with a diameter of 1\u201310 microns can easily penetrate weak points in ordinary sealing structures. Once these particles enter the transformer, they can accumulate on the surfaces of the <strong data-start=\"872\" data-end=\"893\">windings and core<\/strong>, acting like a layer of thermal insulation material around the equipment and further reducing heat dissipation efficiency.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1018\" data-end=\"1305\">Ultraviolet radiation creates a long-term impact. Continuous exposure to strong sunlight accelerates coating aging and cracking. A transformer enclosure that originally meets an <strong data-start=\"1196\" data-end=\"1204\">IP55<\/strong> protection level may fail to maintain the same protection performance after years of harsh exposure.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1307\" data-end=\"1461\">Therefore, the design philosophy of a <strong data-start=\"1345\" data-end=\"1367\">desert transformer<\/strong> is not about optimizing a single factor. It requires simultaneous improvement in three areas:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1463\" data-end=\"1546\">\n<li data-section-id=\"1mumbu8\" data-start=\"1463\" data-end=\"1487\"><strong data-start=\"1465\" data-end=\"1487\">Thermal management<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"mfrsgc\" data-start=\"1488\" data-end=\"1512\"><strong data-start=\"1490\" data-end=\"1512\">Dust-proof sealing<\/strong><\/li>\n<li data-section-id=\"1mnma7o\" data-start=\"1513\" data-end=\"1546\"><strong data-start=\"1515\" data-end=\"1546\">Weather-resistant materials<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1548\" data-end=\"1633\">Only by strengthening all three aspects can reliable long-term operation be achieved.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"1635\" data-end=\"1638\" \/>\n<h1 data-section-id=\"fih6bl\" data-start=\"1640\" data-end=\"1705\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"1642\" data-end=\"1705\">Cooling System: Forced Air Cooling Is Not the Only Solution<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p data-start=\"1707\" data-end=\"1855\">Conventional oil-immersed transformers often rely on fin radiators for natural cooling. This approach can work in moderate or tropical environments.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1857\" data-end=\"2008\">However, in desert regions, the temperature difference driving natural convection is significantly reduced, causing cooling efficiency to drop sharply.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2010\" data-end=\"2053\">Our design approach focuses on three steps.<\/p>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1p64r0p\" data-start=\"2055\" data-end=\"2093\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"2058\" data-end=\"2093\">Step 1: Increase Cooling Margin<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2095\" data-end=\"2226\">For the same capacity rating, a <strong data-start=\"2127\" data-end=\"2154\">desert-type transformer<\/strong> requires a larger heat dissipation capacity than a conventional design.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2228\" data-end=\"2324\">Typically, the radiator surface area is increased by <strong data-start=\"2281\" data-end=\"2292\">30%\u201350%<\/strong> compared with standard designs.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2326\" data-end=\"2467\">For example, for a <strong data-start=\"2345\" data-end=\"2374\">33\/11kV-20MVA transformer<\/strong>, a conventional design may use 22 radiator groups, while our desert solution uses 32 groups.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2469\" data-end=\"2562\">The additional 10 radiator groups provide extra thermal safety margin for extreme conditions.<\/p>\n<hr data-start=\"2564\" data-end=\"2567\" \/>\n<h2 data-section-id=\"1i8dn4w\" data-start=\"2569\" data-end=\"2627\"><span role=\"text\"><strong data-start=\"2572\" data-end=\"2627\">Step 2: Use Forced Cooling as Supplementary Support<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"2629\" data-end=\"2810\">High-efficiency axial fans are installed at the bottom of the radiators. The temperature control system automatically starts and stops the fans according to the top oil temperature.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2812\" data-end=\"2849\">Fan operation is controlled based
